Prokofiev: Romeo and Juliet, Spotify Playlist

This piece of music comes in different versions and lengths as the ballet has 52 musical sections  and most recordings choose a smaller subset of them. So whether you like this piece may depend on what selections were chosen for the recording you listen to.

In 1967 Erich Leinsdorf  recorded this with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and released it on a record as RCA AGLI-1273 and as the rarely seen Testament label CD, TES 1394.  Not to be confused with a later performance of RJ by Leinsdorf in 1977 released as the Sheffield CD  “The Leinsdorf Sessions Vol. 1”.  The 67 Leinsdorf vinyl recording was so good that I bought two extra copies so if it wears out I will still have a good copy.

Other than Romeo and Juliet which is magical, I don't care much for Prokofiev as much of  his music sounds repetitive.  If  you like this music you should go see the whole ballet performed and if you can sit through it without crying you are pretty tough.
